Welcome to Culham Centre for Fusion Energy, the UK's national fusion research laboratory

Nuclear fusion, the process that powers the Sun, can play a big part in our carbon-free energy future. Culham is one of the world's leading fusion research laboratories. Our scientists and engineers are working with partners around the globe to develop fusion as a new source of cleaner energy for tomorrow's power stations.

Focus on...National Fusion Technology Platform at Culham

UKAEA ChairThe new National Fusion Technology Platform will open at Culham in 2020 and will keep the UK at the forefront of fusion energy as it enters the delivery era.

It will include comprehensive fusion engineering test facilities and a new centre for researching tritium fuel management.

The £86 million investment will support industry in winning contracts on the ITER international fusion project, and enable the UK to develop key technology for the first fusion power stations.
