Welcome to Culham Centre for Fusion Energy, the UK's national fusion research laboratory

Nuclear fusion, the process that powers the Sun, can play a big part in our carbon-free energy future. Culham is one of the world's leading fusion research laboratories. Our scientists and engineers are working with partners around the globe to develop fusion as a new source of clean energy for tomorrow's power stations.

Star PowerExplore the history of fusion research at Culham.

In 1965 a new research centre opened near Oxford to study the science and engineering conditions needed to produce electrical energy from fusion. Today, as the world comes together to build the first commercial-scale fusion machine, ITER, in France, Culham is still leading the way in fusion research.

The exhibition takes you behind the scenes learning about the history and development of research at Culham, and how fusion could revolutionise the way we get electricity in the future.
