Apprenticeship award

Culham's award-winning Apprentice Training Scheme, run by the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), has been running successfully for the last 12 years.

We have, until recently, only focussed on Advanced Engineering apprenticeships. We are now intending to expand and diversify to provide apprenticeships in a wide range of other areas to help UKAEA achieve its future talent needs and to support the Government's plans to increase apprenticeships throughout the UK.

Oxfordshire Advanced Skills (OAS)

The UKAEA apprenticeship scheme is complemented by a new training centre at the site – Oxfordshire Advanced Skills. Opened in 2016, OAS is a partnership between the UK Atomic Energy Authority and the Science & Technology Facilities Council to offer apprenticeship training for hi-tech businesses in the Thames Valley. Training is provided by JTL and the centre will eventually train up to 125 young people a year at Culham. In September 2019, OAS will move to a brand new purpose-built training base on the Culham site with cutting-edge facilities and equipment. See for more details.
