DT fuel cycle
CCFE is unique in operating a large magnetic confinement fusion device with a deuterium-tritium (DT) fuelling capability.
The JET active gas handling system has operated for fifteen years supporting JET operations and has proven the feasibility of a closed DT fuel cycle.
Capabilities
CCFE has a unique portfolio of experience in designing, assessing, operating and maintaining tritium systems in a fusion environment.
As well as the primary gas handling system CCFE has extensive tritium experience with tokamak fuelling systems, high energy neutral beam injection and plasma diagnostics.
This experience, coupled with our engineering, modelling and safety case capabilities, and our links with other tritium users, universities and laboratories, ideally positions CCFE to participate in fuel cycle project work.
