EASY-2003 consists of a wide range of codes, data and documentation all aimed at satisfying the objective of calculating the response of materials irradiated in a neutron flux. It is designed to investigate fusion devices which will act as intense sources of high energy (14 MeV) neutrons and cause significant activation of the surrounding materials. However, the very general nature of the calculational method and the data libraries means that it is applicable (with some reservations) to all situations (e.g. fission reactors or neutron sources) where materials are exposed to neutrons below 20 MeV. EASY can be divided into two parts: library/code development tools and user tools. The former are required to develop the latter, and EASY users only need to be able to use the inventory code FISPACT and be aware of the contents of the EAF library (the data source).

The generation of the European Activation File (EAF) is carried out using the SAFEPAQ-II application; which use as input many world-wide sources of nuclear data. These evaluated files, calculations and experimental data are used to construct a collection of cross section data for neutron-induced reactions on an extensive set of target nuclides (both stable and unstable), a set of decay data files and other data libraries required by FISPACT.

EASY-2003 is available for personal computers running Windows (95, 98, NT4, 2000 and XP) and for UNIX workstations. It comprises the EAF-2003 nuclear data libraries, FISPACT-2003 and documentation (six UKAEA reports). For Windows users there is an additional tool - the EASY-2003 User Interface that enables FISPACT to be run, output files to be summarised, graphs plotted and the EAF data to be viewed.

The next version of EASY, EASY-2004, has been produced that extends the energy range to 60 MeV. This version is not being distributed, but will be used for internal testing. A summary report of this new version is available. It is expected that the next distributed version will be EASY-2005, available at the beginning of 2005.

A handbook of activation data for all of the elements, including data for particular neutron spectra, importance diagrams, pathways and transmutation information is now available. The handbook was calculated using EASY-2003 and provides activation information without the need to run FISPACT. It may be downloaded here:
