Materials Technology Laboratory

MTLPart of the National Fusion Technology Platform’s Fusion Technology Facilities, the Materials Technology Laboratory is focused on engineering assessments and development of fusion materials.

The Materials Technology Laboratory at Culham is establishing itself to provide unique capabilities and expertise to the UK in support of the technological development of fusion energy. The key aims of the laboratory are to:

  • Develop novel materials for use in fusion;
  • Establish the materials supply chain;
  • Enable fusion-relevant environmental testing;
  • Standardise small specimen testing;
  • Perform fusion design criteria validation testing.

At the Materials Technology Laboratory we are keen to collaborate on research projects that relate to these areas. We will also consider commercial use of our unique capabilities to support UK industries and academia towards the advancement of fusion and related technologies.
