Selfie shows off really cool camera | 25/02/2015
Scientists from CCFE celebrated the repair of a vital camera on JET with an infra-red selfie!
The wide angle infra-red camera is used to monitor the temperature of JET's inner wall for both operational reasons and for physics studies.
So, when the cooler which keeps its detector at liquid nitrogen temperature broke during the last run of experiments, it was sorely missed. Repairing the camera through the manufacturer was no longer an option because as they had decided not to support this product any more.
The team at JET were therefore faced with fixing it themselves. “It was very tricky to do and I got to appreciate why the cooler company could not believe we would get a successful outcome,” said Scott Silburn, who did the hands-on work.
To celebrate the return to life of this important camera, the team (David Kinna, Peter Drewelow, Alexander Huber, Valentina Huber, Marcus Price, Itziar Balboa and Scott Silburn) took this selfie before returning it to its place in the JET Torus Hall.
