We are keen to encourage as many people as possible to view the fusion research facilities at Culham Centre for Fusion Energy. Our policy for visits is given below.
School, College and University visits
We offer visits for groups of people in full-time education to the MAST and JET fusion experiments during working week days. A typical visit lasts two to three hours (i.e. a whole morning or afternoon) and the maximum number of visitors is normally 30. Presentations and tours are tailored to the age group concerned and for A-level physics visitors we can provide workbooks for pre- and post-visit work relating to fusion and the curriculum. We also offer, subject to availability, visits by scientists to give talks and hands-on demonstrations at primary or secondary schools. We are fully booked until the end of the current academic year, but bookings are now being taken for September 2015 onwards.
To request a school visit or ask for more details, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our Open Evenings give members of the public the chance to see the JET and MAST experiments and meet some of the scientists and engineers who work in fusion research.
The evening is free; it begins at 6.30pm and includes an introductory talk and tours of the MAST and JET experimental facilities (cameras are welcome), usually finishing around 9.30pm. Please note:
- The tours are not suitable for children below the age of 14;
- A significant amount of walking is involved during the tours;
People with pacemakers or other medical implants will not be able to access certain areas.
Our 2015 Open Evenings are fully booked. However, we have a reserve list in case of cancellations for the following Open Evenings:

In addition, we are holding an Open Day on the afternoon of Saturday 7 November.
